Mortgage applications stalled by HMRC glitch

Thousands of self-employed workers are facing mortgage rejections due to a technical failure at HMRC. The issue arises from an outdated system that still demands class 2 national insurance contributions, despite their abolition in April 2024. An HMRC spokesperson said: "We're working to resolve an issue with class 2 contributions. We apologise to those affected, and we'll be letting them know once their records are corrected."
