The deadline for filing tax returns is approaching, yet taxpayers are facing significant delays when contacting HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). Over the past year, taxpayers collectively spent 700 years on hold, with the average waiting time rising to 27 minutes and 2 seconds between April and June, as reported by UHY Hacker Young. Neela Chauhan from UHY Hacker Young stated: "Delays in processing customer queries hinders HMRC's ability to resolve tax issues." With 15.4m calls made in the last year, only 42% were answered by a call handler, leaving many unable to resolve their issues in time.
