Pensioner incomes hit record highs

Workers planning to retire this year can expect an income greater than the starting salary of a graduate in their first full-time job, according to a study by Prudential. People on the verge of retirement can expect annual pension income of nearly £20,000 in 2018, up 30% from £15,300 in 2013 to £19,900 this year. Meanwhile, an average 23-year old university graduate can expect to earn an annual salary of £19,076, down by £16 from £19,092 in 2013. Despite the findings, only half of people planning to retire this year expected income would enable them to have a comfortable retirement.
